Lester Leroy Shoemaker Sr.

Lester Leroy Shoemaker Sr., 89, of Leesburg, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025 at Adena Greenfield Medical Center.  

He was born Feb. 1, 1935 in Bainbridge, the son of the late Roy Edsel and Dorothy (Brown) Shoemaker.  

He retired as a steelworker after many years and was an avid fisherman and golfer. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.  

He is survived by four children, Sherryll (David) Cordrey of Lynchburg, Lester Jr. (Leslie) Shoemaker and James (Rose) Shoemaker, both of Leesburg; and Stephanie (Dale) Vetter of Burlington, New Jersey; 15 grandchildren, Tracy, Brad, Jeremy, Jerrod, Lesley, Tyler, Trevor, Chipper, Seth, Jason, Mandy, Heather, Jaime, Johnny and Kayla; several great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Hazel Christine Shoemaker; and siblings Beverly, Betty, Gladys, Shirley, John, Raymond, and Alfred.  

Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at the Turner Funeral Home in Leesburg, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17.  

Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
