Laverne Kerr Rhoads, 94, of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016 at the Salyer Adult Group Home in Hillsboro.

She was born Oct. 22, 1921 in Taylorsville, daughter of the late Edgar O. and Zora Elizabeth Vance Landess.

Laverne had been a beautician for 70 years, retiring on her 90th birthday. The highlight of her career was in the mid 1950s when she won first place in two divisions in the State of Ohio Competition and then represented the State of Ohio Cosmetologists in North America Competition in Dallas, Texas. She maintained a successful business, led an active lifestyle, traveled extensively, supported her church and collected antiques. Laverne was a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ and at various times had belonged to civic clubs such as the Junior Mother's Club; Elks; and Business and Professional Women's Club. Principally, she enjoyed being with people, whether it be in business or socially.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, David and Deborah Kerr of Cincinnati; a brother, Galen "Shorty" Landess; a sister, Shirley Hull; a special friend, Ronald Swonger; and so many helpful many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

In addition to her parents, Laverne was preceded in death by her first husband, W. Edsyl Kerr; her second husband, Lionel Rhoads; and two brothers, Galo Landess and Edgar Landess, Jr.

Services will be held at Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home, 138 E. Main St. Hillsboro, Friday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 10-11 a.m.
