Kenneth R. Burchett
Kenneth R. Burchett, 68, of Frankfort, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023 at the James Cancer Center in Columbus.
He was born Oct. 17, 1954 in Portsmouth, the son of Arnold T. and Thelma L. (Tackett) Burchett.
He was a 1972 graduate of Portsmouth Clay High School. Ken loved his Lord best and then his wife of 49 years. They were childhood sweethearts and served the Lord together. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He enjoyed writing poems for family baby dedications as well as fixing Sunday dinners for his family. He would often play games and keep everyone laughing. His church family was also very important to him. Next to his family, his love for piano was evident as he wrote songs and played as often as he could. He would practice arrangements for church offerings for hours. He also enjoyed writing and directing Christmas plays.
Ken was called to preach at the age of 19 and served two churches as pastor for a total of 30 years. During that time, he served as district secretary for the Bible Missionary Church and General Secretary for the Wesleyan Tabernacle Association. He was also camp president for the North Central Holiness Camp for many years, as well as camp cook for the Candy Run Camp. He and his family sang in many revivals and he served as evangelist during his vacations from the church. He was a member of the Beulah Chapel Church of Christ in Christian Union. He was also a lab technician at Dayton-Walther in Portsmouth for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue (Bussa) Burchett, whom he married on May 18, 1974; his children, Michael (Shana) Burchett, Kimberly (Troy) Butcher and Kristina Dalton; grandchildren, Kyla, Josiah and Kaelin Burchett, Rebecca (Brian) Shepherd, Bradley Oyer, Clayton, Hailey and Issac Butcher, Destinie (Luke) Sarver, Kenton (Braiden) Dalton, Danessa (David) Dennis, and Kolton and Kimberlyn Dalton; three great-grandsons, Keenan, Deklan and Jensen; his brother, Keith (Sharon) Burchett; a sister, Karen Phillips (Gene); and two special friends, Terry and Judy Jolly.
He was preceded in death by his nephew, Ricke Phillips; and both parents.
Funeral service will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10 at the Beulah Chapel Church of Christ in Christian Union, 585 Chester Hill Road, Chillicothe. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Frankfort.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 9 at the church.
