Kenneth Dale Shoemaker, 84, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, April 10, 2017 at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born Jan. 12, 1933 in Mowrystown, the son of the late Guy and Mildred (Badgley) Shoemaker McConnaughey.
Mr. Shoemaker worked 33 years at the Cincinnati Milacron Company. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church, a member of the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge No. 38 F&AM and a former member of the Hillsboro Elks Lodge No. 361. Mr. Shoemaker enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, golfing and motorcycles, and he loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by three children, Sandra K. (Robert A.) Barger of Hillsboro, Patricia E. (Thomas L.) Smith of Greenfield and Sherry A. (Jeffrey B.) Davis of Hillsboro; 10 grandchildren, Kenneth Michael Kisling of Hillsboro, Brian (Katie) Kisling of Hillsboro, Mary Ruth (William) Dixon of Hillsboro, Sara Elizabeth Barger of Hillsboro, Garrett L. (Dara) Smith of Greenfield, Grant E. (Elyshia) Smith of Pataskala, Alyssa R. (Hunter Wiltshire) Smith of Dayton, Jacqueline M. (Jeremy) Decker of Hamersville, Chelsey A. (Bradley) Doughman of Lynchburg and Brandy D. (Jeff) Waller of Urbana; 15 great-grandchildren, Katelyn Ann Kisling, Austin Eggleton, Brayden Kisling, Drew Kisling, Kilie Ramsey, Tyler Ramsey, Taryn Decker, Korbyn Decker, Ava Doughman, Lily Doughman, Cameron Smith, Hayden Tharp, Maeve Smith, Logan Dixon and Drew; a sister-in-law, Betty Shoemaker of Ocklawaha, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; four special friends, Ramon Fenner of Jupiter, Fla., Norman Ludwick of Hillsboro, Larry Craft of Leesburg and Don Bandy of Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann Carter Shoemaker on Dec. 9, 2007; two brothers, Harold Shoemaker and Ronald A. Shoemaker; and a great-grandson, Beau Allen Dixon.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 13 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Services will be 7 p.m. following visitation on Thursday, April 13 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home. Dr. Derek Russell will officiate. Burial, with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15 in the New Market Baptist Cemetery.
