Kathy Jo Newland, 71, of Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025 at OSU Medical Center in Columbus.
 
She was born Aug. 5, 1953 in Greenfield, the daughter of Orville and Ella Kathleen (Taylor) Everhart.
 
Kathy was a 1971 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School and a founding member of Hillbillies of Hope Relay for Life of Highland County.
 
She retired in 2019 from Weastec Inc. of Hillsboro and was a former employee of the U.S. Shoe Factory of Greenfield up until its closing.
 
She is survived by her daughter, Joei (Doug) Gill of Greenfield; two grandsons, Johnathan and Jack Gill; one sister, Wilma (Dennis) McMurry of Bainbridge; three brothers, Charles (Kim) Everhart of Bainbridge, Robert (Vickie) Everhart of Greenfield, Jeffrey “Bean” Everhart of Greenfield; numerous, nieces and nephews, including, two special nieces, Stephanie (Daren) Bobb and Audrey Lyle; and three lifelong friends, Donna Nartker, Marylynn Nance and Lynda Cornett.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Newland, on Sept. 22, 2017; one son, John Martin; one sister and brother-in-law, Patti (James) Brooks; one nephew, Michael J. Brooks; and both parents.  
 
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 at Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family in the South Salem Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
 
Memorials may be made to the McClain Athletic Dept, Attn: Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team, 200 N. Fifth St, Greenfield 45123.
