Karen Sue McElwee, 65, of Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018 at her home.
She was born the daughter of the late Norman Abraham and Juanita Fern (Smith) Mercer on June 2, 1953 in Greenfield.
Karen worked for 34 years as a front end manager at Great Scot, served as the secretary for the Lions Club, was a district and state Lions Club officer and loved to read and spend time with her kids and grandkids.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Phil McElwee; three children, Craig (Jill) McElwee of Cincinnati, Dawn Ziegler of Bright, Ind. and Matt (Lauren) McElwee of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren, Jessica McElwee, Abigail McElwee, Ryan Ziegler, Natalie McElwee, Maya Ziegler, Scarlett McElwee, Addilyn McElwee and Leighton McElwee; siblings, Randal J. (Shelby) Mercer of Blanchester, Kevin (Lisa) Mercer of Hillsboro and Lori Kay Mercer of Chillicothe; brother-in-law, Kerry (Betty) McElwee of Sinking Spring; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeffrey L. Mercer and Gary Mercer.
Visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral services will begin immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. at the church. Rev. Tom Zile will officiate. Burial will follow at Gilboa Cemetery.
