Joy Howard, 57, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 4, 2022 at her home in Hillsboro.
Joy was born July 9, 1964 in Portsmouth.
She spent most of her life working in customer service but was able to dedicate the last years of her life to assisting with the care of her grandchildren; they were the light of her life. Joy enjoyed a simple life and spending time with her loved ones the most.
Joy is survived by her children, Jack Whitt, Kayla (fiancé Taron Captain) Jackson and Nena O’Connell; grandchildren, Alexis Captain and Aryana Captain; siblings, Jerri Whitt, Scott Whitt and Gerald Whitt Jr.; her father, Gerald Whitt; and a stepdaughter, Delonna Puckett and children.
Joy was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Whitt; partner, Jack “Beecher” Combs; partner, Jimmy Jackson; partner, Christopher O’Connell; stepdaughter, Janet Jackson; step-grandchild, Austin Bailey ;and grandparents.
It was Joy’s wish to be cremated, and the family will be honoring her request. A private memorial will be held by the family at a later date. The Turner & Son Funeral Home and Crematory in Hillsboro is serving the family.
