Joseph “Joe” Temple, 80, of Hillsboro passed away Friday, Jan. 1, 2016 at his residence surrounded by family and friends.

Joe was born June 28, 1935 in Hillsboro, the son of the late J.J. and Nellie (Harshbarger) Temple.

He was united in marriage to Ramona Joy Brown on Aug. 3, 1958, who preceded him in death on Sept. 28, 2007.

He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer S. (Darrell) Branham of Hillsboro; a son, J. David (Amber) Temple of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Alex McFarland, Brandon (Millie) Temple, Gavin Temple and Hayleigh Swayne; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wayne and Sylvia Brown of Green Valley, Ariz.; niece, Cindy Applegate of Seaman; three nephews, Don Brown of Oregon, Tony Skujins of Arizona and Alex Brown of Oregon; several cousins; and a host of friends.

Joe was a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ and also attended the Union Church of Christ. He was a member of the NRA. He retired after 32 years of teaching and administration in elementary education in 1989, where he taught and coached in New Market and Pricetown and became an educator for the Hillsboro City Schools, serving at Webster and Marshall. He then spent a number of years as a real estate agent with Donald E. Fender Realty.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will follow in the New Market Baptist Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home.
