Joseph Herman Karnes
Joseph Herman Karnes, 76, of Arcadia, Fla., formerly of Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Fla.
He was born on March 15, 1948, the son of Orville E. and Anna Jane (Herman) Karnes.
Joe was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a life member of the VFW. He was an avid horse racing fan and owned, trained and drove standard bred horses for several years.
After his retirement he has resided at Oak Haven Senior Park, Arcadia, Fla. for the past 20 years. He retired from the United States Postal Service after carrying mail for 20 years. He loved his retirement community and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his stepson, Billy (Mandy) Wareikis; two stepgrandchildren, Owen and Toree; one sister, Harriett Fout; one brother, Raymond L. (Elsie) Karnes; three aunts, Jeannie Evans, Clara Mae Elliott, Jane Karnes; three nieces, Vanessa (Keith) Penwell and their children, Kyndall, Kaden and Kamden, Ashley Karnes and her daughter, Brynlee, Hannah (Rich) Bivens and their children, Max and Maggie; two nephews, Brian (Heather) Smith and their children, Emma and Wesley, Joseph (Rachel) Fout; great-nephew, John Andrew Smith IV.; great-niece, Jade Welburn; and numerous cousins and second cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew, John Andrew Smith III.; brother-in-law, Richard Fout; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents.
A celebration of life will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Locally, the Murray-Fettro Home is assisting the family.
