John W. Walker, 76, of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born Nov. 6, 1945, in Westboro, the son of the late Robert Donald Walker and Catherine Elizabeth (Rankin) Walker.
John was a 1964 graduate from Whiteoak High School and worked as a bus supervisor and mechanic at the Lynchburg-Clay Schools for over 30 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Lynchburg United Methodist Church, Highland County Veterans Honor Guard, VFW Post 9094 and the Mowrystown American Legion 694. John enjoyed woodworking, golfing, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
John is survived by his daughter, Joyce (Marty) Young of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Young, Jacob Martin Young and Zachary William Young; three brothers, Aaron “Ike” (Paula) Walker of Derby, Ira Dale "Charlie" (Robin) Walker of Washington Court House and Dennis “Bub” (June) Walker of Hillsboro; a sister-in-law, Jeanine Walker of Wilmington; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard (Bonnie) DeMoss of White Pigeon, Mich.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Janet L. (DeMoss) Walker, on June 14, 2020; two brothers, Robert David Walker and Daryl Walker; and two sisters, Nancy Holt and Carol Gillespie.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2022 from 5-8 p.m. at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 25 at 11 a.m. at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors presented by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard, will follow services on Wednesday in the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard, P.O. Box 505, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133 or to the Lynchburg United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 403, Lynchburg, Ohio 45142.
