John Thomas Hanes

John Thomas Hanes, 64, passed away Feb. 13, 2025.

John's charming spirit found expression in his career as an auctioneer, where he brought people together to celebrate the treasures of life, whether they came from yard sales or estate sales. His passion for the auction community was only matched by his love for family and his friends. In addition to his auctioneering pursuits, John was an active member of his local Jeep Club, forging friendships and creating fond memories on the open road. He will also be remembered for his kind heart and deep affection for his cats, who brought him joy and companionship.

Born in Middletown, John was a lifelong resident of Ohio, having spent his later years in Beaver.

He was a beloved son, brother and friend.

John is survived by his mother, Margie Wells; brothers, Terry (Penny) Hanes, Everett (Tina) Hurst, Chris (Stephanie) Burden and Rick (Tracy) Hutchinson; sisters, Theresa (Jim) Small, Lisa (Keith) Chalk, Kim (Dale) Batman, Tammy Youngerman and Terrie (David) Amis; stepmother, Shirley Hanes; grandchildren, Willow and Ryker Tsotsos; special friends, Angelo and Tiffany Tsotsos; and a host of relatives and friends who will forever cherish the memories made during their time with him.

John was preceded in death by his father, Leon Hanes.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.
