John R. Burnett, 78, of Leesburg, formerly of Greenfield, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He previously had served eight years as a United States Air Force reservist.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Annette Walker Burnett; his children whom he loved dearly, Quentin (Angeoa) Burnett, Amber (Matt) Snow, Jason Shoemaker, Mandie (Josh) Frazer and Heather (Tim) Jenkins; and his grandchildren, Jagger Smith, Carson Jenkins, Jerricah Shoemaker, Emma Jenkins, Joey Frazer, Surenitea Shoemaker and Ben Frazer. He loved them all and held a special place in his heart for them. Also surviving are his sister, Becky Coman; a special brother-in-law and sister-in law, Randy and Tammy Hibbs; and numerous other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert John Burnett and Mary Lou Burnett; and his sisters Lois Mathison, Lona Burnett and Lora Burnett.

John’s wish was to donate his body to medical science to hopefully keep helping others. At a later date, a celebration of life will be held.

If anyone wishes, memorial contributions should be made to Wounded Warrior Project or homeless veterans charities.

The Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home, Hillsboro is assisting with arrangements: www.edgingtonfuneralhomes.com.
