John L. Wessel, 65, of Sardinia, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the Bethesda North Hospital in Montgomery.  

He was born Oct. 4, 1955 in Portsmouth, the son of the late Leonard and Mabel (Clausing) Wessel.  

He was a truck driver for most of his life and along with his wife operated J & B Wessel Trucking. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Rubyville Fire Department for 29 years and was a loyal Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan.  

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Betty A. (Davidson) Wessel, whom he married Nov. 13, 1999 in Hillsboro; three stepchildren, Shawn Harmon of Danville, Jacky (Rob) Stratton of Hillsboro and Travis (Heather) Harmon of Buford; eight step-grandchildren, Brittany, Ashley and Bryson Harmon, Kira and Hayden Stratton and Emslee, Bristol and Briar Harmon; a brother, Roy (Sharlene) Wessel of Portsmouth; two sisters, Delores Sue DeAtley and Annette (Perry) Gifford, both of Minford; and his loyal companion, “Diesel.”  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Amanda Alice Wessel.  

A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Jim Faust will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hamer Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
