John Daniel Shonkwiler, 67, of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023 at home.
 
He was born June 27, 1955 in Greenfield, the son of Charles and Rita (Baxla) Shonkwiler.
 
John was a 1973 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman.
 
He retired from Johnson Controls in 2008 then completed culinary school. He had a passion for cooking and loved sharing his talent with others. He spent his recent years substitute teaching.
 
He is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Emily) Shonkwiler of Astoria, Ore. and Matthew Shonkwiler (Jennifer Jones) of Cincinnati; one daughter, Lori Shonkwiler (Levi Porter) of Ashland, Ky.; the mother of his children, Julie Shonkwiler of South Salem; one brother, Chuck (Karen) Shonkwiler of Fairborn; one sister, Gwen Harbison of Batavia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by both parents.
 
Celebration of life will be Monday, Feb. 20 from 1-4 p.m. at the Greenfield Historical Society Grain and Hay Building, 103 S. McArthur Way, Greenfield, Ohio, 45123.
 
The Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield is serving the family.
