Joanne Cherry Michael Johnson, 92, of Chillicothe, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, of natural causes, at her home surrounded by family.

She was born March 18, 1922 in Leesburg, to the late Walter and Locie Davis Cherry.

On April 25, 1962, she married John Worley Johnson, who survives. Also surviving are her children, Janet (Larry) Chapman, Hillsboro, David (Sharon) Michael, Jamestown, R.I., Edward Michael, Leesburg, and Thomas (Beth) Johnson, Chillicothe; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer (Randall) Wenker, Kristen Cross, Michael Chapman, Bryan (Helen) Michael, Danielle (Jeff) Matthews, Amanda, Erin, Jeff, Eric, and Ryan Michael, Olivia and Abbey Johnson; eight great-grandchildren, Cyrus and Harper Cross, Hannah and Eleanor Wenker, Molly and Emily Wright, and Lauren and Gwen Matthews.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Nancy Cherry; and a brother, Dudley Cherry.

Mrs. Johnson was a genealogist, and a charter member of the Ross County Genealogical Society. She was very proud of Ladd Farm, her family’s farm, established in 1803, and soon to be recognized with the Ohio Century Farm Program Bicentennial Designation. The designation recognizes Ohio farms operated by the same family for over 200 years.

She was a member of the Friends Church, Leesburg, and an avid bird watcher. Her favorite times were spent with family, including long nights at the family table playing board games.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Haller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Twin Township Cemetery. Friends may call 5-7 pm Tuesday at Haller’s. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ross County Genealogical Society, 444 Douglas Ave., Chillicothe, Ohio 45601.
