Jessie Ray Williamson, 80, of Hillsboro, formerly of Newark, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 1, 2025 at his home. 

He was born July 22, 1944 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Walter Harley and Lucielle (Chenowith) Williamson. 

Jessie proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army from 1963-66. During his service, he was an engineer and expert rifleman and stationed in Germany. He was a man of few words, but he had many interests. Jessie loved God and was of the Apostolic faith. He was a great lover of bluegrass music. Jessie was a master musician who played various instruments. He also wrote songs and enjoyed amateur radio. Jessie loved to spoil his animals. He worked with Fiberglass as a group leader at Caine Corporation in Newark. 

Jessie is survived by his son, Jason Ray Williamson, of Newark; ex-wife, whom he loved very much, Freda Johnson Williamson; siblings, Bert Williamson of Newark, Paul Williamson of Hillsboro, Danny Williamson of Peebles, Esther Long of Newark and Dessie McCann of Seaman; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Anthony Williamson, on Feb. 9, 2013; siblings, Billy Williamson, Lowell “Pete” Williamson, Charles “Chuck” Williamson, Nellie Potts and Gladys Burns. 

The family would like to extend special thanks to Paul Williamson and Bryan and Marjorie Hatton for all the help, support, and love that they showed to Jessie. 

Visitation will be noon-1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7 at Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Jessie’s great nephew, the Rev. Eric Skidmore will officiate. Burial will follow at Westwood Cemetery.
