Jean A. Head

Jean A. Head, 91, of Hillsboro, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015 at the Salyer Adult Group Home.
She was born in Hillsboro on April 30, 1924, the daughter of the late Starling M. and Ethel G. (Carr) Ambrose. Besides her parents, she was also preceded by her husband J. Henry Head on Jan. 12, 1996; grandson Bruce Ford; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Donald and Mary Ambrose; and sister, Harriett Duckwall.
Jean was the owner and operator of Jean’s Flowers in Hillsboro for some 50 years. Jean’s career started in her parents’ garage and chicken coop in the early 1950s. In 1967, she had a grand opening on North High Street, where she operated her business until she retired in 1995. Jean was a member of the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church, the Hillsboro Chapter # 441 O.E.S. and the Hillsboro Garden Club.
Jean is survived by her stepdaughters, Helen Ford of Hillsboro and Marilyn (Bill) Atsalis of Hobe Sound, Fla.; nephew, Eric (Marilyn) Matthews of Hillsboro; niece, Janice Carrozzella of Cincinnati; five grandchildren, Melanie (Grant) Brose, Mick (Sandy) Ford, Mark (Joyce) Ford, Tom Atsalis and David (Alma) Atsalis; 10 great-grandchildren, Christopher Ford, Megan (Josh) Walker, Todd (Amy) Ford, Meri Ford, Graham Brose and Taylor, Paige, Ali, Tara and Brooke Atsalis; and three great-great-grandchildren, Alex Ford and Adeana and Adler Eubanks.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Hillsboro Cemetery with Dr. Derek Russell officiating.
Friends may call at 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015 at the Thompson Funeral Home.
