James Nelson DeHaas, 79, of Buford, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 at Clermont Mercy Hospital in Batavia.  
 
He was born July 24, 1937 in Hollowtown, the son of the late Fay Cyrus and Helen Irene Lewis DeHaas.
 
James was an United States Air Force Veteran and a member of the Buford Church of Christ.
 
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Jean DeHaas, whom he married on July 28, 1956; three sons, Michael (Linda) DeHaas of Allensburg, Gregg DeHaas of Allensburg and Brian DeHaas of Buford; five grandchildren, Katie Farmer of St. Martin, Kristi Dean of Mt. Orab, Jeremy DeHaas of Mt. Orab, Jacob DeHaas of Buford and Jorden DeHaas of Hillsboro; and a sister, Joyce Parrott of Florida.
 
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two twin infant daughters, Patricia and Tamula De Haas; and a grandson, Gregg DeHaas.
 
Graveside services will be held at Buford Cemetery, Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Hugh Hurley officiating. The Highland County Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. 
 
 Edgington Funeral Home, Mowrystown is serving the family.
