James Leon Cumberland, 59, of Chillicothe, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021.
He was born Dec. 10, 1961, in Hillsboro, the son of James H. and Eleanor (Curtis) Cumberland.
James was baptized at the New Hope Baptist Church in Hillsboro when he was a young man. He enjoyed bicycling, playing cornhole, and spending time with his family and friends.
James is survived by his parents, James H. and Eleanor L (Curtis) Cumberland; six children, James Cumberland, Jr., Caleb Cumberland, Brittany (Antonio) McClaurin, Oceana Cumberland, Jalesia Cumberland and Mariah Cumberland; three siblings, Mark E. (Peggy) Cumberland, Chad E. Cumberland, and Heather Cumberland Delagdo; his companion, April Stevens; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
James was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Orvel and Imogene (Burns) Curtis; and paternal grandparents, John and Delia (Watts) Cumberland.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 25 in the High Top Cemetery in Samantha.
