Herbert J. “Herb” Mihalik, 66, of Hillsboro, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
He was born Nov. 4, 1955 in Wilmington, the son of the late Thomas and Beverly (Mart) Mihalik.
Herb loved Jesus, his family and sports. He was a graduate of Loveland High School and the College of the Holy Cross, where he played football. He retired from teaching after 35 years of service. He taught and coached in many school districts over the years, including Bright Local School District, Hillsboro City Schools, East Clinton Local Schools, Washington Court House City Schools, Blanchester Local Schools, Williamsburg Local Schools and Batavia Local Schools, as well as at Shaffer Park and Bethel Diamond Sports.
He was a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ, where he could be found rocking babies in the nursery or spending time with his Wednesday morning men's group. When he was not serving his community, he was spending time with his family. He loved playing with his grandchildren and always had a funny story to share with his brothers and sisters. He touched the lives of many. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Darlene (King) Mihalik, whom he married Dec. 20, 1980 at the Hillsboro Church of Christ; three children, Jennifer Mihalik of Hillsboro, Julie (Evan) Shepherd of Bethel and Joshua (Barbie) Mihalik of Columbus; his mother-in-law, Mary King of Hillsboro; five grandchildren, Laila, Maicyn, Stella and Jet Shepherd and Oliver Mihalik; four siblings, Tom (Becky) Mihalik of Florida, Chris (Debbie) Mihalik of Loveland, Lori Breen of Florida and Lisa (Gary) McFarland of Loveland; a sister-in-law, Bev Stout of Hillsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Donald King; and a brother-in-law, Dan Breen.
A visitation will be held Friday, June 3, 2022 from 5-8 p.m. at the Hillsboro Church of Christ, where a funeral service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11 a.m. Brad Clouse will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
