Gerald “Gary” David Bailey, 80, of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021 at the Highland District Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born Oct. 16, 1941 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Howard E. and Violet G. (Hill) Bailey.

Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era and served most of his duty in Japan. Gary enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles; working outside on his yard, especially mowing; and he loved cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes with his wife, family and friends.

Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alma Bailey, whom he married June 4, 1967 in Waverly; two children, Marsha Gillman of Hillsboro and Dena (Jason) Baker of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Mindy (Aaron) Reynolds of New Vienna and Garrett (Kennedy) Gillman of Hillsboro; four great-grandchildren, Lillian Reynolds, Abigail Reynolds, Gentry Gillman and Beau Gillman; and eight surviving cousins.

Celebration of Gary’s life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gary’s name to the Highland County Humane Society, P.O. Box 471, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
