George M. Wehner

George M. Wehner, 86, of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully Monday, April 10, 2023 at Bell Gardens Place with his family by his side.

He was born Jan. 13, 1937 in Dayton, the son of the late Richard and Mary (Custenborder) Wehner.

George was a Chaminade High School graduate, and after high school he attended the University of Dayton and earned his bachelor’s degree from Wilmington College in 1983.

George worked in the grocery store business all his life, starting at the age of 16. He was the owner and operator of George’s Pizza and Carry Out in Martinsville for many years. He also worked as a counselor at Wilmington Mental Health for many years, and he was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hillsboro. He enjoyed golfing, boating, and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. He will be greatly missed.

George is survived by five children, Robert (Rev. Liesa Chase) Wehner of Fairborn, Connie (Mike) Wooddell of Martinsville, Joann Moyer of Martinsville, Sharon Wehner of New Vienna and Karen (Stewart) Mumy of Fairborn; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; two siblings, Ronald (Marilyn) Wehner of Columbus and Marlene Wehner of Springboro; sister-in-law, Lil Wehner of New Mexico; his beloved dog, Buddy; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Wehner; his second wife, Marilyn Wehner; a sister, Doris (Joseph) Storer; two brothers, Edward (Cheryl) Wehner and Richard Wehner; and his son-in-law, Richard Moyer.

Visitation will be held Saturday April 15, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at noon following visitation. Father Mike Paraniuk will be the celebrant. Burial will follow services in the Martinsville IOOF Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George’s name to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 212 S High St., Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
