George M. Strong, 87, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly early Friday morning, July 8, 2022 at home.
 
He was born Oct. 26, 1934 in Greenville, Ky., the son of the late George W and Mable Clara (Jenkins) Strong.

On Dec. 31, 1955, he married Juanita Langdon Strong, who passed away Jan. 6, 2018. They were married for 62 years.

A U.S. Army veteran, George started Strong's Trucking, which he operated until his retirement. He was a member of the Sligo Baptist Church and the Wilmington Savings Bank Senior Citizens Center.
 
Surviving are his daughters, Sheila Spear, Pamela J. Strong and Karen (Darrell) Marshall; granddaughters, Kortni (KC) Cozzens and Kylie (Daniel) Marshall; sister, Shirley A. Strong; most precious great-grandson, Leo Carter Cozzens; and great-granddaughter on the way, Daisy.
 
In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by his sisters, Hannah “Thelma” Whitford and Wilma Jean Morath; son-in-law, Poe Spear; and several sisters-in-law and brothers in-law.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 West Locust Street at North Mulberry Street, Wilmington, with Rev. Tim Bro officiating. Interment will follow in the Clinton County Memory Gardens, Wilmington, where the Wilmington American Legion Honor Squad will accord full military honors.
 
Friends will be received Wednesday, July 13 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home.
