Geneva (Pigeon) Charlene Burns, 74, of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at Highland District Hospital.
She was born Feb. 26, 1943 in Samantha, the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Rockhold) Burns.
She was a member of the Wayman Chapel AME Church, 8 year member of the Highland County Magnolia Twig and a member of the Hillsboro Community Action Board. She enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Burns and Matilda Burns, both of Hillsboro; six sons, Richard (Cherie) Burns, Wesley (Carla) Burns and Brian Burns all of Hillsboro, Stanley (Jacklyn) Burns of Fredericksburg, Va., Rodney (Chris) Burns of Hillsboro, Vincent Burns of Leesburg; twenty one grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Darrell Hancock of Wilmington; one sister, Sarah Clark of Ridgeway; one brother-in-law, Raymond (Irene) Burns of Hillsboro; her very special "big sister," Arlene Cole of Hillsboro; one daughter-in-law, Lynette Burns Payne of Washington C.H.; a sister-on-law, Evelyn Burns of Wilmington; two special sons, Donald Burns of Troy and Ronald Burns of Sydney.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Carl Burns, Jr. on May 29, 2013; two sisters; two brothers; five brothers-in-law; and five sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Hillsboro New Hope Baptist Church. Services will take place at 1 p.m. following visitation on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the New Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Michael Hudson will be officiating. Burial will follow services in the High Top Cemetery.
