Gary Thomas Conley, 69, of Ashland, passed away on Wednesday June 8, 2016 at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Mr. Conley was born Sept. 3, 1946 in Kenova, W.Va., son of the late Rolley and Anna Ruth Presley Conley.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Linda Marie Smith Conley; his parents, a son, Aaron Thomas Conley; and a brother, Robert Conley.
Gary served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Marksman.
He later retired from truck driving.
He was a Hillsboro Honor Guard, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of VFW Post 9094, a member of Ashland FOP, and Laurel Gap Freewill Baptist Church. His interests included his church, family, cars, and Harley Davidson.
Survivors include daughters, Kim Pavey, husband Jeremy, of Leesburg, Ann Smithson, husband Randy, of Leesburg, and Amanda Plagge, husband Jim, of Maineville; brother, Woody Conley (Judy) of Ashland; and sister-in-law Betty Conley of Catlettsburg; seven grandchildren; many special friends along with several close nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless brothers and sisters in Christ.
Services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at the Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home, Panola Street, Catlettsburg. Pastor J.C. Caudill will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Committal service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 15 at the Hillsboro Cemetery with military honors by the Highland County Honor Guard.
