Gary H. Adams “The Black,” 78, of Greenfield, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2022 at Adena Greenfield Medical Center.
He was born July 31, 1943 in Ross County, the son of the late Franklin and Katherine (Glaze) Adams.
Gary attended Edward Lee McClain High School when he took his music talents on the road to enjoy years and legends of success. He later traveled with his brothers as The Jones’ Boys, where he toured with George Jones and Johnny Paycheck, as well as numerous other greats in the country music world.
His latest endeavors were with The Southern Memories Band, with which he played statewide.
He is survived by his three sons, Gary Adams Jr. of Greenfield, Buddy Adams of Greenfield and Tony Adams of Lima; five brothers, Roland “Arnie” Adams of Greenfield, Don Adams of Greenfield, Farrell (Sherry) Adams of Greenfield, Wayne Adams of Gulf Shores, Ala. and Darrell (Anzio) Adams of Nashville, Tenn.; his partner, Judy McCarty; and family, Cherish McCarty, Parrish Conaway and grandchildren, Riley and Trinity Butcher, who called him Happy.
On Jan. 22, 2008, he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Barbara (Blair) Adams. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by three sisters, Marcie, Elaine and Sharon; one brother, Howard; sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Rev. Wayne Combs officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Murray-Fettro Funeral Home to assist the family.
