Galen "Shorty" Elwood Landess, 94, of Hillsboro, passed away in his sleep Tuesday morning, Jan. 30, 2018 at his home.  
 
He was born Jan. 27, 1924 in Highland County, the son of the late Edgar Ordell and Zora Elizabeth Vance Landess.
 
Shorty had been a farmer for all of his life, and he semi-retired in 1991. He was a DeKalb Seed Corn Dealer from 1965 to 2006. Shorty was also involved in the Buford Farmers Institute and Farm Bureau, was an honorary member of the Lynchburg-Clay FFA and was a member of the Hollowtown Church of Christ. He did some traveling with groups of friends. Shorty never met a stranger and enjoyed being with friends, whether it be in business or socially.
 
Surviving are his loving wife of 71 years, Madeline Landess; son, Ted (Jackie) Landess of Buford; daughter, Jennifer (Rick) Lane of Buford; granddaughter, Amanda (Shawn) Eagleston; two great-granddaughters, Lauren and Lily Eagleston, all of Mason; sister, Shirley Hull of Hillsboro; nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
 
In addition to his parents, Shorty was preceded in death by two brothers, Galo Landess and Edgar Landess Jr.; and a sister, Laverne Kerr Rhoads.
 
Funeral services will be held at Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home, 138 East Main Street, Hillsboro, Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Robert Hottle officiating. Interment will follow in the Hamer Township Cemetery, Hillsboro.
 
Friends will be received at the funeral home, Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, 4-8 p.m.
