Frederick Harold “Roy” Goerler, 72, of Hillsboro, passed away Sunday afternoon, Dec. 31, 2017 at The James, Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. 

He was born Jan. 10, 1945 in Reading, Berkshire, England, the son of the late Harold Gilbert and Sheila Peggy (Watkins) Goerler. 

He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served for a total of 18 years. He was a computer programmer and analyst. 

On Sept. 9, 2006 in Hillsboro, he married Paulette (Simonson) Goerler, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, Harold Roy (Jamie Bennett) Goerler of Newark and Shawn Patrick (Tonya) Goerler of Corinth, Ky.; six grandchildren; three sisters, Melanie Epperson of Dry Ridge, Ky., Dawn Beagle of Williamstown, Ky. and Sheila Gay (Mel) Rhiel of Lebanon, Ind.; a brother, Jeff Epperson of Dry Ridge, Ky.; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Ray Goerler.

In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated. A memorial service and celebration of Roy’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 234 North High Street, Hillsboro. Rev. Judi Wiley will officiate. 

Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity Highland County, P.O. Box 488, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133. Envelopes will be available at the church.
