Fred B. Cox Sr., 89, of East Monroe, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Edgewood Manor of Greenfield.
 
He was born Oct. 4, 1932 in Highland County, the son of Alfred and Gertrude (Crabtree) Cox.
 
Fred served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Fairfield High School, where he was a custodian for 35 years, and prior to that he worked at the East Monroe Feed Mill, where he was employed 15 years, and began early in life at the age of 15 years old working on the railroad.
 
He is survived by his two sons, Fred B. “Dean” (Cindy L.) Cox Jr. of Leesburg and Joseph A. (Marcelina) Cox of Leesburg; five daughters, Teresa Hester of Leesburg, Laura (Wilbur) Young of Leesburg, Pamela (Warren) Hester of Leesburg, Trudy (David) Howland of Highland and Cindy (Rick) Simmons of Leesburg; 28 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Telytha Maude Cox, on Jan. 20, 2008; two daughters, Victoria Hodge and Cecilia Cox; one grandson, Christopher Oppy; three brothers, Alfred Jr., Pearl and Rick Cox; one sister, Shirley Woods; and both parents.
 
Funeral service will be Monday, March 7 at 1 p.m. at Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield, beginning with a veterans appreciation service, then Chaplain Jeff Davis to officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Greenfield with military rites provided by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield.
 
Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
