Fay Eugene Gibson, 80, of Hillsboro, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024 at Christ Hospital.
He was born Oct. 24, 1943 in Carmel, the son of the late Kenner and Beatrice Gibson.
Fay proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Gibson Trucking for 33 years. After his career in trucking ended, Fay kept working in property maintenance for LGSTX at Airborne and also at Smyth Auto on the weekends. He was a big NASCAR fan and even did some racing himself. Fay was a decorated winner from when he raced ARCA in the 1960s. Later in his life, Fay came to know the Lord and started to attend Marshall Church of Christ. He loved being in church and was especially proud and honored to serve communion to his church family. Fay will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his four-legged friend, Buster.
Fay is survived by his wife, Connie Gregory Gibson; children, Thomas L. (Heather) Rhoads, Fay E. (Lisa) Gibson Jr., Doug Gibson, Gay (Bob) Boyce and Angie Pauley; many grandchildren, including Shane Rhoads, Cassie Zimmerman, Phillip Zimmerman, Ciara (Michael) Gibson, Sage (Dylan) Scott and Caiden Buchanan; many great-grandchildren, including Collin Zimmerman, Jordyn Zimmerman, Ava Zimmerman, Jaxson Dildine and Seth Hatfield; siblings, Vicki Nichols and David Gibson; many nieces and nephews; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim (Linda) Gregory, Kathy Pfister, Caryl (Michael) Coston, Tony (Sis) Gregory, and Sherri Gregory.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Craig Gibson; grandson, Joseph Gibson; sister, Nancy Tholen; and brother-in-law, Todd Gregory.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 at Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16 at Marshall Church of Christ with Tom Stoops officiating and military honors by the Highland County Honor Guard. In keeping with his wishes, Fay will be cremated.
