Esther Faye Thompson, 86, of Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, in Georgetown, Ky.
She was born April 12, 1935, in Ironton, the daughter of the late Jerry and Mildred Webb.
Faye was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School in Coal Grove, Ohio; the University of Cincinnati; and Ohio University. Faye was a beloved schoolteacher who worked in the Hillsboro City Schools as a Title I Coordinator and teacher for over 20 years. Mrs. Thompson also taught at the Wee Care Nursery School and shared her love of reading at the Hillsboro Public Library during the weekly story hour for preschoolers.
Mrs. Thompson was inducted into the Alpha Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society for Outstanding Women Educators. She was a dedicated member for over 30 years, serving the chapter as vice president and president. Faye was an active member of the Northview Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher for young children. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and family camping trips.
In addition to her parents, Faye was preceded in death by her late husband, Joe W. Thompson. The couple wed Sept. 12, 1953 in Coal Grove and were married for 67 years.
Faye is survived by her three children, Becky (Don) Storer of Hillsboro, Gayla Thompson of Georgetown, Ky. and Gilbert (Annette) Thompson of Juneau, Wis. Faye was a proud grandmother to five granddaughters, Heather (Nate) Steiner, Rachel (Patrick) Tarmann, Sarah Thompson, Mallory Thompson and Callie Thompson, and a great-grandmother to Timothy and Lydia Tarmann with Baby Steiner on the way. Faye’s sister, Fern Fisher of Sardinia, also survives.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will have a private service.
