Ernest "Ernie" Lynch, 83, of Hillsboro, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Salt Lick, Ky., a son of the late John J. and Ebbie (Dun) Lynch. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during a kamikaze attack while serving aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Zellars. He was a retired truck driver and was a 20-year member of Highland Lodge #38 F. and A.M., and was a mason for 55 years. He is survived by seven children, Velia Teague and her husband, Robert Teague, of Hillsboro, Ray Lynch and his wife, Judy, of Hillsboro, Martha Jacob and her husband, Roger, of Hillsboro, Randy Lynch and his wife, Jenny, of Germantown, Candie Louderback and her husband, Rudy, of Winchester, Lola "Pinkie" Lynch of Hillsboro, Ebbie Martin and her husband, Nick, of Hillsboro, a son-in-law, Larry Knox of Hillsboro, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Onida Adams of Salt Lick, Ky.; as well as special family members Denice Gillespie, Carol Gillespie and Darla Phelps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Angeline "Bettie" Lynch on June 19, 2009; a daughter, Garrie Knox; six brothers, Arnold Lynch, McKinley Lynch, Levi Lynch, Otis Lynch, Odell Lynch and Elbert Lynch; and a sister, Lola Lynch. Graveside services were Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the Coss Cemetery. Brother Jeff Griffin officiated. The Highland County Honor Guard presented military honors. There was no visitation.
