Elza Workman

Elza Workman, 103, of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024 at his home. 

He was born Oct. 8, 1920 in Floyd County, Ky., the son of the late John and Nancy (Baldridge) Workman. 

Mr. Workman was a proud World War II veteran of the United States Army. He received three Bronze Stars for fighting in Northern France, the Rhineland and the Ardennes during the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from General Motors Delco Products after nearly 31 years of service. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. 

He is survived by a son, Lance Workman of California; a daughter and son-in-law, Alesia and Patrick Merris of West Carrollton; a grandson, Anthony (Kelli) Merris of Germantown; a sister, Lucy Windle of Centerville; a brother-in-law Bob Hoffer; as well as several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Clarice M. (Hoffer) Workman, who passed away March 7, 2018; a son, Steven Douglas Workman; two sisters Dora Ward and Essel Foster; and four brothers Ed, Benny, Hubert and Gene Workman. 

A visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 30, 2024 from noon until 1 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro, when a funeral service will begin. Rev. Tom Zile will officiate. Burial with military honors presented by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery near Peebles.  

Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice (Community Care Hospice), 1669 Rombach Avenue, Wilmington, Ohio 45177.
