Elsie E. McConnaughey, 95, of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021 at The Laurels of Hillsboro.
She was born May 31, 1926 in Highland County, the daughter of the late Henry and Eva Ellen (Shoemaker) Caplinger.
She was a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ. Elsie was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother to her family and led them all to love the Lord.
She is survived by five children, Joan (Dale) Kendall of Hillsboro, Carmean Williams of Carl Junction, Mo., Terry McConnaughey of Hillsboro, Tim McConnaughey of Washington Court House and Steve McConnaughey of Hillsboro; 11 grandchildren, Mark (Cheryl) Johnson, Kevin (Lisa) Johnson and Lori (Troy) Salchow, all of Joplin, Mo., Molly (Keith) Stevens, Holly (Jamie) Heiser and Leah McConnaughey, all of Hillsboro, Kyle (Amy) McConnaughey of Wilmington, Christina (Jon) Bednarek of Gilbert, Ariz., Logan McConnaughey of Washington Court House, Micah McConnaughey of Spring Hill, Tenn. and Josh McConnaughey of Wilmington; special friends Adam and Megan Kelley and John and Orvetta Ferrell, all of Hillsboro; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Carmon M. McConnaughey, on Feb. 13, 1998; a son, James A. “Jim” McConnaughey; a daughter-in-law, Sue McConnaughey; a grandchild, Tari Sue Johnson; and eight siblings.
A visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021 from 10-11 a.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. The funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 11 a.m. Jim Bush will officiate. Burial will follow in the New Market Baptist Cemetery.
