Elizabeth Ann ("Libby," "Liz") Vance Caldwell, 89, of Greenfield passed away peacefully at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe, Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 with family by her side.
Libby was born Feb. 23, 1928 to the late Orville William Vance Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Catherine (Hamilton) Vance.
She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1946.
She married Charles William Caldwell on Dec. 3, 1946 at the Baptist Church of Hillsboro. They were able to enjoy almost 70 years of marriage. Charley passed away on April 22, 2016. She was ready to meet him in heaven. They were both long-time members of Fall Creek Friends Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Janice Sue (Jim) Noble of Cincinnati, LTC (retired) Martha Ellen Caldwell of El Paso, Texas, Pastor Margaret (Peggy) Caldwell of Elizabethtown, Ind. and Chris (Brady) Tolbert of Greenfield; five grandchildren, Jenny (Mitch) Duff, Jackie (Jeff) Marsala, Amy Wilt, Jon Adam Nice and Casey (Brett) Schout; seven great-grandchildren, Stephen and Bekah Duff, Emily and Katie Marsala, Ryan (Courtney) Wright, Jacob Wright and Abby Boldman; and one great-great-grandson, Jayce Wright. She is also survived by one brother, Orville Wm. “Bill” (Dottie) Vance Jr.; one sister-in-law, Mary Jean (Caldwell) Bell; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charley; two brothers-in-law, James F. Bell and John (Jack) Caldwell; and two sisters-in-law, Joanne Vance and Wanda Caldwell.
Libby taught 4-H for 11years, teaching the homemaking skills, including sewing and cooking. Her leadership skills won several awards at Highland County Fair and Ohio State Fair for her students. She was one of the founders for the 4-H Building at the Highland County Fairgrounds. She retired from Calmar Inc., Washington C.H. in 1993. As a mission service project, for years she was committed to sewing quilt pieces together for lap robes. Then other ladies at Fall Creek Friends Church would knot them. She also baked cakes for Daily Bread for nine years up until her hospitalization. She enjoyed growing vegetables which she shared with friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed growing flowers and frequently took arrangements to church.
Services will be Thursday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. at Turner & Son Funeral Home Hillsboro. Pastor H. Scott Latimer of the Fall Creek Friends Church and Pastor Margaret (Peggy) Caldwell of Sandcreek-Azalia Friends Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the New Market Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 5-8 pm.
