Edward William Hope died Sept. 11, 2016 at The Sanctuary in Dublin, Ohio.
He was born in Greenfield on Aug. 12, 1923, to Curliss L. Hope and Jessie McCord Hope. The Hope and the McCord families had long histories in the Pike, Ross and Highland County area.
A 1941 graduate of McClain High School, Mr. Hope started his college education at The Ohio State University but was interrupted by WWII. He served as a corpsman in the China–Burma–India (CBI) Theatre, where he met his future wife, Jean Faull. They were married in England on June 21, 1949.
After the war, Mr. Hope completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. He lived and worked as a teacher, a principal and superintendent in various school districts in Ohio, including as the Highland County Superintendent of Schools, and for the armed forces schools in Germany and England. After retiring from his career in education, Mr. Hope also worked as an administrator for the Ohio EPA.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Faull Hope of Dublin, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. George (Helen Jean) Pommert of Washington Court House; a son, Richard F. Hope of Easton, Pa.; a daughter, Jane Hope Whitman of Dublin; numerous grandchildren, including Megan and Andrew Gupko of Strongsville, Katie and Kevin Penley of Columbus and Peter and Dana Hope of Belvidere, N.J.; and a large number of great-grandchildren.
