Edith L. “Edie” (Sword) Ryan, 87, of Chillicothe, passed away of leukemia Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018 at her home.
She was born June 6, 1931 on Back Hollow Road, Franklin Township, in Ross County, the daughter of Ora A. and Hazel (Evans) Sword.
Edie was a retired bookkeeper and a 1949 graduate of Southeastern High School and a member of the Southeastern Alumni Group.
Edie is survived by her sister, Nancy (Dave) Hice of Chillicothe, with whom she lived; nephews, Roger Kitchen of Franklin Furnace and Scott (Nancy) Kitchen of Portsmouth; great-niece, Tasha (Daniel) Elliott and great-great-nephew, Eli Elliott, both of Chillicothe; one stepdaughter-in-law, Vicky Ryan of Greenfield; stepdaughters, Dixie (Larry) Teeters of Pataskala and Patty (Daryl) Plummer of Columbus; stepsons, Glenn (Kim) Ryan of South Salem; Jack Ryan of Columbus, James (Debbie) Ryan of South Salem and Robert Ryan of Waverly; and sisters-in-law, Bertha Neel and Florence Amann, both of Hillsboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Ryan, on Nov. 29, 2010; one sister, Irma; one brother, Raymond; one stepson, Gary Lee Ryan; stepdaughters, Lois Lucas, Ruth Ann Bates and Betty Houck; and both parents.
Dave and Nancy would like to thank the following who where important in the recent months: caregivers, Angie and Jeff Hopper and Susan Hess; and for help and support, Tasha and Daniel Elliott and Terrell Fairrow.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial will follow in the South Salem Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
