Earl W. Maher, 85, of Wilmington, passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2021 at his home in Wilmington, surrounded by his family.
He was born Nov. 2, 1935 in St. Martin, the son of the late John Daniel Maher and Mary Cresenthia Cordy Maher.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Earl was a member and past commander of the Wilmington American Legion Post #49. He was proud to be a founding member of the Post #49 Honor Guard of which he was a member for 30 years. Earl was also a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church and had retired from Cincinnati Milacron.
Surviving are his wife, Norma Maher, whom he married Nov. 28, 1959; daughter, Theresa Hensley; four sons, John (Joanne) Maher, Robert Maher, Adam Rosenwirth and Branson Rosenwirth; two grandchildren, Jeremy Rosenwirth and Amber (Brad) Courson, as well as seven great-grandchildren, Cainen, Braiden, Destiny, Justice, Madi, Ryker and Axel; his sisters, Roseann Cordrey and Marge Rankin; brother, Whitey Maher; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Mira and Abbie.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Rosenwirth; two sisters, Ellen Walker and Kate Pfeffer; and three brothers, John Maher, Donald Maher and Ray Maher.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Columbkille Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Holloran officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, where the Wilmington American Legion Post #49 Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
Friends will be received Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021 from 5-8 p.m. at the Wilmington American Legion Post #49, 140 E. Locust St., Wilmington.
