Duane E. Blackburn, 81, of Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at his home.
He was born May 10, 1936, near New Vienna, the son of the late Charles Robert and Stella Morarity Blackburn.
Duane was a 1954 graduate of New Vienna High School. He was a longtime resident of the New Vienna area, where he enjoyed country living and was an avid farmer. He had numerous other jobs, including trucking for Consolidated Ceramics in Blanchester and most recently was custodian for the Hillsboro Eagles before retiring.
He was a member of the Hillsboro VFW Post 9094, Hillsboro AMVETS Post 61 and a Golden member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1161, Hillsboro. Through these memberships and social gatherings, Duane gained many great friends over the years.
Duane is survived by his son, Steve (Cheryl) Blackburn; brother, Larry (Penny) Blackburn; special friend and companion, Mary Williams; stepson, John (Connie) Stuber; stepdaughter, Jane (Don) Williams; nephews, Ron (Virginia) Blackburn, Mike (Lori) Blackburn, Alan Blackburn and Kevin Blackburn; great-nephew, Christopher Blackburn; step-grandchildren, David (Julie) Oney, Amber (Jack) Steed, Peter James (Jessica) Oney, Laura Morgan, Danielle (Chris) Henthorn, Chelsea Stuber and Shasha Stuber; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma (Wilson) Blackburn; stepson, Jerry Stuber; and infant brother, Harold Blackburn.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 7, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
Friends and family may call from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017 at the Thompson Funeral Home, with Eagles services to follow at 4 p.m.
The family requests donations be made to Hospice of Hope, in Duane’s memory.
