Dr. C. Ted Roush, 79, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017 at his home.
He was born Dec. 9, 1937 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Wesley and Sarah (Gross) Roush.
He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School, class of 1955. He graduated from Ohio State University, College of Dentistry, in June of 1962. A week later, on June 21 1962, he married Mary Jo Ann Hetzel, his college sweetheart.
He was immediately inducted into the Army Dental Corp and served at Fort Polk, La., from 1962-64, where he attained the rank of captain. He served in the Army Reserves until 1972.
He moved to – and began his dental practice – in Lynchburg in 1964. He was a dentist in Lynchburg for 53 years. He never retired. He maintained that he wanted to help people for as long as he could and saw his last patient in his office in August of this year. He only stopped when he became too ill to continue.
During his lifetime, Dr. Roush served many years on Lynchburg Village Council, as a board member for Home Builders Association and as a deacon and elder in the Lynchburg First Church of Christ. He later attended the Mount Olive Church of Christ in New Vienna. He was dedicated to serving the Lord first.
He was a very dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
Dr. Roush is survived by three children, Ellen (Leland) Pennington of Hillsboro, Chris (Rhonda) Roush of Woodlawn, Tenn. and Marian (Don) Lewis of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Rubert Lee) Littler of Hillsboro, Adam Perry of Hillsboro, Curtis Roush and Julia Roush, both of Woodlawn, Tenn.; four siblings, Elaine Glenn, Ken (Judy) Roush, Sally (Bill) Rogers and Glenn (Anne) Roush, all of Hillsboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 47 years, Mary Jo Ann (Hetzel) Roush; and brothers-in-law, Allen E. Hetzel, II and Dan Glenn.
He has an entire host of family members greeting him in heaven.
In accordance with his wishes, Dr. Roush was cremated. There will be a celebration of life on Dec. 9. That would have been his 80th birthday. The celebration will be at 2 p.m. at Hillsboro Christian Academy in Hillsboro, and it is open to the public.
After the celebration, Dr. Roush’s ashes will be scattered on their property on West Road beside the stream he and his wife dearly loved, and where his wife’s ashes were scattered eight years ago.
