Dorothy Young

Dorothy Young passed away Oct. 23, 2024.

She was born Sept. 25, 1936 in West Union.

A devoted mother, sister, grandmother and cherished nurse whose life painted a tapestry of kindness and grace, with each stitch embodying her unwavering love for her family, Dorothy's journey on this earth came to a peaceful close.

Dorothy's presence radiated warmth and comfort, touching the lives of many, both within her family and the community to whom she dedicated herself wholeheartedly. As a nurse, she brought healing and solace to those in need, reflecting her compassionate nature and unwavering commitment to caring for others.

Throughout her life, Dorothy found solace and strength in her faith, faithfully attending the Bible Baptist Church, where her spirit found peace and belonging. Her legacy of faith and devotion will forever be remembered by all who knew her.

Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will be forever cherished by her surviving relatives: daughter, Sarah (Kenneth) Kisling; sons, Sam (Brenda) Young and Jerry (Lana) Young; half-brother, Michael Cooper; half-sister, Louise Moore; sister-in-law, Jan (Tim) Gillespe; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchild.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Ruth (Davidson) Purdin; husband, Jay Young; two sisters, Barbara Rothwell and Mary Purdin; and half-sister, Joann White.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024 at 2 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 1 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
