Dorothy Stebbins Mackey, 90, peacefully passed away to be with her husband, William Howard Mackey, of 62 years on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016.
She was born July 7, 1926 in Canton, the daughter of the late William Tindall and Ethel Marie (Brown) Stebbins.
Following graduation from Lehman High School, Canton, in 1944, Howard and Dorothy met at Erieside Christian Service Camp, and married on Nov. 7, 1947. She received college degrees from Cincinnati Bible College with a master’s degree in religion; from Butler University in Columbus and a master’s from the University of Alabama. Dorothy worked at a magazine subscription company and within a year a teacher position opened in the Jefferson County School System in Center Point, Ala. For many years, Dorothy and Howard traveled all 50 states of the United States as well as Canada and Mexico for their musical ministry “Song and Word Ministries.”
Howard played the organ and piano and Dorothy her alto saxophone, the theme was always “To God Be The Glory.” She also authored several books.
Howard and Dorothy have three daughters, Martha Jane Mackey of Pasadena, Calif., Kathleen Marie Mackey King and husband Al of Natchez, Miss., and Virginia Ann Mackey Graham of Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Marie (Josh) Blue, Rebecca Jane (Mark) Green, Stephanie Ann (Caleb) Hamilton, Jonathan Davis King and Kimberly Michelle King; six great-grandchildren, Joshua William Blue, Caden Mackey Blue, Hannah Marie Blue, Adelaide Adair Blue, Sarah Marie Green and Eli William Green.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dr. William Howard Mackey, on July 29, 2008; and two sisters, Mildred Arnold Sanford and Margaret Morgan Landoll.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 at the Hillsboro Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
