Dorothy J. Shanks, 101, of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 at Heartland of Hillsboro.

She was born the daughter of the late Clarence and Faye (Swisshelm) Rhoades on Aug. 5, 1916 in Hillsboro.

Dorothy was a member of the Leesburg Friends Church, where she played the organ. She worked at 1st Security Bank for many years until her retirement, then after retirement she traveled with her husband.

She is survived by four nieces and nephews, Curt (Sandra) Shanks of Leesburg, Gary (Judy) Cunningham of Frankfort, Debbie (Randy) Dutton of Tallmadge and Timothy Cunningham of Oak Hills; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Shanks, on March 12, 1991; and her brother, Dr. Rendell (Nancy) Rhoades.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will begin immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. Rev John Fitzgerald will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillsboro Cemetery.
