Doris Jean Gregory, 89, of Hillsboro, passed away July 4, 2018 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.
She was born July 3, 1929 in Washington C.H., the daughter of the late Robert and Mina (Martin) Garringer. She was one of eight children in the family.
Doris was a graduate of Washington Court House High School. She was a gentle soul who valued her friendships deeply and was true to her word. She was deeply involved and part of her husband’s business endeavors. She was deeply religious and grateful to the Lord in all things. She attended the Marshall Church of Christ, and it was there she felt most happy and loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Gregory; her parents; brothers Ben, Paul, James Oliver and Cecil, as well as sisters Betty Bullen and Eris Puckett; and her special friend, Ann Fenner Williams.
Doris is survived by her children, Kent and Karen Daughtrey, both of Hillsboro; a sister, Patricia Nobles of Live Oak, Fla.; and two sisters-in-law, Sara Noes of Bradenton, Fla. and Louann (Mast) Garringer of Columbus. She is also survived by stepchildren, Robyn (Rick) Garner of Mount Juliet, Tenn. and Ricky Ray Gregory of Sabina, as well as many nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
She loved children and was an immediate friend to any friend of her children. Her passing will leave a void in the space around anyone who ever had the good fortune to meet her. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
To honor Doris’ memory and celebrate her life, the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. To conclude the evening, at 7 p.m. Tom Stoops will offer a brief prayer and words of comfort. Mrs. Gregory will be laid to rest at the Hillsboro Cemetery at a later date at the convenience of the family.
The family encourages memorial contributions in lieu of flowers, which may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105, the Highland County Dog Pound Volunteer Program, 5029 Concord Road, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
