Donald Gene Smedley, 67, of Clarksville, passed away Friday, June 12, 2015 at the Miami Valley Hospital.

He was born Nov. 8, 1947, in Hillsboro, the son of the late Oscar V. and Lura M. (Lambert) Smedley.

He was an excellent machinist, and had retired from Unison Industries in Dayton after 26 years of service. He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed yard work and gardening, restoring old cars, and spending time with his family and particularly his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Peggy E. (Gibson) Smedley, whom he married on March 22, 1968 in Harveysburg. He is also survived by two sons, Rick (Taffney) Smedley of Clarksville and Rodney (Tami) Smedley of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Bailey and Ellie Smedley; three sisters, Charlene Bone, Wannetta (Ed) Hartman and Linda Cluxton, all of Wilmington; a brother, Mike (Robin) Smedley of Laura; and his mother-in-law, Dolly Gibson of Waynesville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Barnes; and his father-in-law, Frank Gibson.

A memorial service and celebration of Don’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 20 at the Jonah’s Run Baptist Church. The Rev. Roger Hilbert will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the church. A time of food and fellowship in Don’s honor will be held at the church immediately following the service. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Jonah's Run Baptist Church, 9614 S.R. 73 West Wilmington, Ohio 45177.
