Dayne "Woop Woop" Puckett, 82, of Sinking Spring, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022.
Dayne was born Sept. 7, 1940 in Sinking Spring to the late Howard and Nettie Ellen (Setty) Puckett.
Dayne attended the Sinking Spring Community Church. He was a graduate of Sinking Spring High School and took Dale Carnegie Courses. Dayne and his mother were sales representatives for Avon for 60 years. Dayne was the sales manager for the band "The Van Dells" for 30 years and traveled all over the country with them and several other country music stars, including Steve Lake and The Swingmasters Band, Jerry Lee Lewis, Charley Pride, Merle Haggard, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton. Dayne had a photo with him and Dolly Parton standing by the Sinking Spring village sign, one of many pictures with Nashville stars.
Dayne liked to say, "from Sinking Spring to Nashville, Hee Haw." Dayne performed on the Grand Ole Opry, where he sang his famous song, "I'm A Nut," and made Sinking Spring famous when he gave the population of the village during that episode of "Hee Haw." Dayne loved sports and assisted with the Peebles High School basketball teams, never missing a game whether boys or girls when he was not on the road. Dayne also was on the Cincinnati Reds charity softball team during the Pete Rose era, traveling all over southern Ohio doing charity events. Dayne is truly going to be missed.
Dayne is survived by his loving sister, Delores (Keith) Goldsberry of Centerville; two brothers, Donald (Linda) Puckett of Wilmington and Jerry (Sharon) Puckett of Peebles; sister-in-law, Herma Puckett of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a nephew, Kyle (Jody) Goldsberry and children, Dylan and Alyson; a niece, Andrea (Ryan) Fullenkamp and children, Brooke, Hunter and Morgan; a nephew, Chad (Christina) Puckett; a nephew, Craig Puckett; a niece, Amy (Todd) Griffith and children, Sydney (Harley) McPherson, Layne and Landyn; a nephew, Tyler (Mitzi) Puckett and children, Gavin and Griffin; a nephew, Dallas (Becca) Puckett and children, Silas and Spero; Zachary's sons, Carson and Paxton Puckett; cousins; and a host of friends.
Besides his parents, Dayne was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Puckett; and a loving nephew, Zachary Puckett.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 at the Sinking Spring Community Church, 23 Main Street, Sinking Spring. Pastor Greg Seaman will officiate services with burial following in the Dunkard Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Sinking Spring Community Church.
