Daniel L. Cowdrey, 80, of Hillsboro, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015 at the Highland District Hospital in Hillsboro.

He was born May 16, 1935 in Williamsburg, the son of the late Walter Louis Cowdrey and Alice Stockton Cowdrey.

Dan had a master's degree from The Ohio State University where he was a member of ROTC. Upon graduation he served in the United States Air Force where he attained the rank of captain. Following his military career, Dan taught school in the vo-ag departments at Lewisburg and Leesburg High Schools. He also served as 4-H agent in Fayette County and worked as the County Extension agent in Highland County for several years. He was also instrumental with Southern Ohio Economic Development, was president of the Highland County Airport Authority, was a member of the Highland County Republican Central Committee and was president of the Rocky Fork Lake Alliance. Dan was also a member of the Highland County AmVets, Highland Lodge #38 F&AM and the Hillsboro Rotary Club, where he was a honored Paul Harris Fellow.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Marie Cowdrey of Hillsboro, whom he married April 4, 1958; three sons, Brian Cowdrey, Steve Cowdrey and Tim Cowdrey; five grandchildren, Heather Branham, Megan Cowdrey, Monica Cowdrey, Craig Cowdrey and Matthew Cowdrey; two great-grandchildren, Damon Pruitt and Gabe Branham; a sister, Ann (Bob) Campbell, of Leesburg; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Ann Blue, Mary Jane (Jim) Evilsizer and Jenny Carroll; a brother-in-law, Pat Hendrixson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Louis Cowdrey; two brothers, Richard and Carl Cowdrey; and a brother-in-law, Forest Carroll.

Services will be held at the Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home, Hillsboro, Friday, May 29, 2015 at 2 p.m. with Jeff Lyle officiating. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery, where the Highland County Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. 

Friends will be received at Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home on Friday, May 29, 2015, noon - 2 p.m.
