Connie Jean Grubbs Wile, 76, of South Salem, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021 at home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Oct. 26, 1944 in Greenfield, the daughter of George and Goldie (Groves) Grubbs.
She enjoyed babysitting for over 30 years, loved traveling and visiting with her family, cooking and baking, crocheting scarves and blankets, loving her sweet dog Amy, and playing Banana-grams, cards, scrabble, cribbage, dominoes and many other games with family and friends. She enjoyed going to the YMCA, she said, “to swim,” but truly it was to spend time with and play Mexican dominoes with friends. She never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone she met.
She loved her First Baptist Church family and was known to give neck and back rubs prior to the service. She loved to give hugs and someone once said, “when she gave you a hug, she hugged your soul.”
She married the love of her life, Steve Wile, on Oct. 26, 1963. They have five children, Pam (Pat) Bean of Greenfield, Scot (Mara) Wile of Milwaukie, Ore., Patsi (Keith) Dick of Hillsboro, Jay (Angie) Wile of South Salem and Steve (Steph) Wile of Salem, Ore.; grandchildren, Sarah (Church) Odia, Hannah Bean, Alyssa (Adam) Hollar, Mike Perez, Dylan (Erin) Wile, Trenner Wile, Aubrey Wile, Tucker Wile, Lucy Wile, Eric (Ashley) Fischer, Jeremy (Jennifer) Fischer; great grandchildren, Ethan Odia, Elijah Odia, Eliana Odia, Olivia On, Maverick Hollar, Peyton Fischer, Arya Fischer, Merida Fischer and Lowen Fischer; sisters, Shirley Willett, Katy Schorr and Monna Ellithorpe; a sister in-law, Susie (Pres) Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She has numerous children around the Greenfield area that she played a part in raising, being she was the best babysitter and Mamaw in Greenfield for so many years.
She will be missed dearly, but is at peace and hugging her loved ones she has missed for so long. “Don’t be sad because I’m gone, be happy because I lived.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Wile, on March 10, 2015; and both parents.
A private funeral service will be at Murray-Fettro Funeral Home at the convenience of the family with Pastors Chris Stokes and Mark Click officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, April 2 at the funeral home. The family requests that social distancing be observed, and masks are required. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
