Colena M. (Yankie) Creek, 88, of Wilmington, passed away at her home, with her family by her side, Thursday, April 29, 2021.
She was born Oct. 8, 1932 in Xenia, the daughter of the late Colon Michael and Hazel Mae (Thornburg) Yankie.
Colena had many special gifts that flowed from her heart. Her ability to spread the word of God was felt by all that she came in contact with. Her love for music showed through her eyes and her smile. When you were in her presence, you always felt loved. She attended the Wilmington Church of the Nazarene, where she was instrumental in Bible Studies.
Colena learned music through her dad and brothers and later played in a band known as the Yankee Red Shirts. She played many instruments, but the piano was her favorite. Later, she played in a band known as the Sr. Band Six. She enjoyed listening to her son play music and correcting his mistakes.
Colena‘s family includes her daughter Connie (Roger, deceased) Bills and their sons Kevin, Steve and Brian; daughter Lorry (Danny) Cox and their children, Jamie, Jason and Jennifer; daughter Angie, deceased, (Mark) Constant and their children, Brittany, Brad and Brenda; son Gary Creek and his daughter Miranda Daye; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Colena had so much love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Colena is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Everett Creek, Jr.; daughter, Angela Kay Constant; and son-in-law, Roger Bills.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington. Pastor Rod Walley of the Wilmington Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery in Lynchburg. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Wilmington V.F.W. Post 6710, 1130 N. Lincoln Street, Wilmington following the service.
