Charles Sanders (Charlie) Ford, 83, of Seminole/Largo, Fla., passed away peacefully Jan. 7, 2018.
He was born in Hillsboro on June 15, 1934, the youngest son of Margaret Sanders Ford and James Everett Ford.
After graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1952, Charlie moved to Florida and worked 10 years at Orange Blossom Groves for Al Repetto. He then owned Ford Construction and was a general contractor locally for over 50 years.
Standing 6’5”, he was known for his hearty laugh and bright presence. He loved hard work his whole life. He spent the weekends on his boat with his wife Barbara and family at Shell and Egmont Key Islands. He is remembered for his honesty, integrity and genuine love for people. He was a gentleman and a gentle man.
His memory will live on with his loving wife, Barbara Guthrie Ford; his four children, Dr. Carol Ann Ford Rudek (Joe), Charles Dennis Ford, Susan Kelly Leonard (Dan) and Emilie Margaret Ford; stepchildren, Michele Guthrie Hankins, Shannon Guthrie Kirshner and Patrick Guthrie; grandchildren, Jason Ford, Janelle Ford O’Neal, Joel Leonard, Susannah Leonard, Phillip Leonard, Bradley Leonard, Kate Ford Rudek, Shannon Ford Rudek, Elijah Hunter; great-grandchildren, Bayley Leonard, Sean Ford, Koel Leonard and his newest great-grandchild, Rech Lee Temple; nephews, Mick (Sandy) Ford and Mark (Joyce) Ford; nieces, Melanie (Grant) Brose, Kay Connor, Karen Christoffel and Kathy Davis; and sister-in-law, Helen Ford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Dean Ford; nephews, Bruce Dean Ford and Kim Christoffel; sister, Beulah Christoffel Lyle; and stepson, Adam Guthrie.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Seminole Elks Lodge #2519, where Charlie was charter member #59. Charlie was honored by so many friends and family in attendance.
